According to the latest U.S. Census Bureau estimates, Edinburg’s population increased by 2.62% over the past year, reaching 108,733 residents. This places the city 25th nationwide for fastest percentage growth among cities with populations over 100,000 and 10th in Texas. Mayor Ramiro Garza Jr. attributes this growth to the community’s strength and investments in quality of life, infrastructure, and economic opportunity.

New Business Openings

In a significant boost to local development, the Edinburg Economic Development Corporation (EEDC) announced that Zoho Corporation, a global software company based in Austin, has acquired the historic Echo Hotel property. This acquisition is expected to bring new economic opportunities to the area.

Additionally, Cavender’s Boot City, a well-known western wear retailer, plans to open its first location in Edinburg later this year. The store is expected to generate more than $4 million in sales, contributing to the local economy and providing new employment opportunities.

Infrastructure Enhancements

Edinburg is also investing in its infrastructure to accommodate its growing population. A $650,000 renovation project is underway to restore a historic 1925 building in downtown Edinburg. The project aims to create six commercial rental spaces and introduce new attractions, including a boutique bourbon bar and a coffee shop, enhancing the city’s cultural and economic landscape.

Furthermore, Hidalgo County has opened a new public parking lot in downtown Edinburg, adding 105 spaces near the county courthouse. This development aims to ease congestion and provide more convenient access to downtown services.

The Edinburg Police Department is urging residents to remain vigilant following a recent surge in online scams targeting individuals and businesses in the area. These increasingly sophisticated scams include extortion, sextortion, smishing, and fraudulent demands for money. Residents are advised to verify requests for payment or personal information by contacting the organization or individual directly through official channels and to report any suspicious activity to law enforcement immediately.
