Mayor’s Essay Contest Opens for Students

The City of Edmond has opened entries for its annual Mayor’s Essay Contest, now in its 41st year. The contest is open to Edmond students in first through fifth grade and invites them to imagine what they would do if they were mayor for a day.

Winning students from each grade will be recognized at a City Council meeting this spring, with certificates and a chance to meet the mayor. The contest has long been a way for younger residents to engage with local government and share ideas about their community.

Utility Customers Can Win $500 Through AutoPay

Edmond utility customers who sign up for automatic bill payments are being entered into a city sweepstakes offering two $500 gift cards. The program is designed to encourage on-time payments while giving residents a small incentive to simplify monthly bills.

Once enrolled in AutoPay, customers are automatically entered into the drawing, which will run through the end of April. Winners will be notified later this spring.

City Encourages Residents to Sign Up for AlertED

City officials are continuing to promote AlertED, Edmond’s emergency notification system. The service sends texts, emails, and voice calls during weather emergencies, public safety situations, and other urgent events.

Residents who previously used the older system are encouraged to re-register to ensure they continue receiving timely alerts. City staff say keeping contact information current is one of the easiest ways to stay informed during fast-moving situations.

Looking Ahead

Several public meetings are scheduled in the coming weeks, including City Council and Planning Commission sessions. Agendas and meeting materials are available through the city’s public notices system for residents who want to follow local decisions closely.
