El Paso commuter alert: Horizon & Darrington closures + safety lighting (July 20–24)

TxDOT’s El Paso District posted an east El Paso maintenance schedule for Monday, July 20 through Friday, July 24, 2026. The plan includes daytime lane restrictions on Horizon Boulevard and Darrington Road, plus additional safety-lighting-related closures in the same general east-area corridors.

TxDOT says the work is dependent on weather conditions, so lane setups and conditions may change.

What’s planned on Horizon Boulevard (alternating lanes)

Daily: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (July 20–24)

Horizon Boulevard east- and westbound: alternating lane closures between Horizon Crossing Street and Rodman Street.

TxDOT says crews will be doing electrical, concrete and sign work for this portion of the Horizon/Darrington Reconstruction Project.

What’s planned on Darrington Road (alternating lanes + longer closures)

Daily: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (July 20–24)

Darrington Road north- and southbound: alternating lane closures between Homestead Drive and Nunda Drive.

Beyond the weekday alternating-lane work: TxDOT lists continuous closures until September 2026, including:

Darrington Road southbound full closure: from Homestead Drive to Roslyn Drive.
Darrington Road and Roslyn/Alderwood Manor Drive intersection full closure.

TxDOT says crews will be installing water, sewer, and storm drain lines as part of the Darrington-related work.

Safety-lighting work nearby (Gateway East/West, Titanic, Copia, Dyer)

Daily: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (July 20–24)

Gateway East and West: alternating lane and ramp closures from Raynolds Street to Paisano Drive.
Titanic Avenue: east- and westbound right shoulder closures between Howard Street and Pandora Street.
Copia Street: north- and southbound alternating lane closure between Wyoming Avenue and Hueco Avenue.
Dyer Street: north- and southbound alternating lane closure between Kemp Avenue and Van Buren Avenue.

TxDOT describes this safety-lighting work as shoulder work.

Extra work windows during the same week (I-10 and Loop 375)

I-10 near the Hudspeth Safety Rest Area

Daily: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (July 20–24)
I-10 alternating east- and westbound right lane closure: between MM 76 and MM 79

TxDOT says crews will be moving concrete barriers. TxDOT also lists continuous shoulder closure until December 2026 (I-10 east- and westbound shoulders between Fort Hancock and McNary) for utility installation.

Purple Heart Highway (Loop 375) — Sergeant Major Bridge Reconstruction Project

Nightly closures (listed days): Monday, July 20, Wednesday, July 22, and Friday, July 24
Time window (as posted): 12 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Loop 375 right lanes affected: north and southbound right lanes between the Sergeant Major Exit and Entrance Ramps

TxDOT also lists continuous closure until December 2026 for north- and southbound Sergeant Major Exit Ramps and says crews will be working on ramp widening and a shared use path extension.
