El Segundo sets August workshop on Vision 2050 land-use alternatives

El Segundo is moving its Vision 2050 planning process toward a public discussion of land-use alternatives, with city staff refining concepts and technical analyses through July 2026 before a planned Planning Commission community workshop in August.

The process could shape future land use, housing, transportation and development policy in El Segundo. Residents and property owners are expected to have a formal opportunity to comment on the alternatives before the City Council considers a preferred option.

August meeting is listed, but workshop date is not final

The City of El Segundo’s calendar lists a Planning Commission meeting for Aug. 13, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. The calendar also lists another Planning Commission meeting for Aug. 27.

However, the city’s official Vision 2050 page says the community workshop will take place during a regular Planning Commission meeting in August and that the exact workshop date was still to be determined. The Aug. 13 meeting should therefore not be treated as definitively being the Vision 2050 workshop until the final agenda is posted.

The city’s agendas and minutes page lists upcoming Planning Commission and City Council meetings, including Aug. 13 and Aug. 18. It also identifies City Council meetings canceled on July 21 and Aug. 4. Residents should check the city’s final agenda materials for the confirmed workshop date, meeting location and participation details.

Alternatives precede council review

At the workshop, staff are expected to present land-use concept alternatives and solicit public feedback. No preferred land-use alternative has been adopted.

After the Planning Commission discussion, a City Council study session is planned for September 2026. The council is expected to consider the alternatives and provide input on a preferred alternative. The Vision 2050 process is scheduled to continue through fall 2026.

The project team includes Fehr & Peers, KMA and MIG. The available city materials do not establish the final number of housing units or the zoning changes that could result from the process. Those details remain unresolved while the alternatives and technical analyses are being refined.
