The City of El Segundo said Alert SouthBay and regional partners, including the El Segundo Fire Department, planned the live drill for Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at 1 p.m. The notice said it was part of regional preparedness ahead of FIFA World Cup 26.
What the test was meant to show
The point of the drill was to remind residents, workers and commuters that emergency alerts can interrupt a normal day. The city’s June bulletin repeated that the message was a test, not a real emergency.
Alert SouthBay said the exercise covered the South Bay region and included El Segundo. Residents who want future emergency warnings can register through Alert SouthBay’s opt-in alert system.
For families and businesses, the practical takeaway was simple: a sudden alert on June 10 would not have meant danger, but it was a reminder to sign up now for future notifications.
