Elk Grove’s Aug. 7 nomination deadline puts mayor and two council races into final stretch
Four days remain before Elk Grove’s 5:00 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, deadline for nomination documents in the city’s Nov. 3, 2026, general municipal election.
The election will cover the directly elected mayor’s office and City Council seats in Districts 2 and 4. The latest City of Elk Grove filing-status record, updated July 31, lists five people who pulled nomination papers and identifies filing activity for those offices.
What is on the ballot
Elk Grove voters citywide will choose the mayor on Nov. 3. The council contests are district-based: only voters in Council District 2 will vote in that race, and only voters in District 4 will vote in the District 4 contest.
The city’s official election notice identifies the three offices as mayor, Council Member — District 2, and Council Member — District 4. The nomination period opened July 13 at 8:00 a.m. and closes Aug. 7 at 5:00 p.m.
What the July 31 filing record shows
The city record lists Janet “Lynn” Wheat and Bobbie Singh-Allen under the mayor’s office.
Rod Brewer and Peggy Parks are listed for Council District 2. Sergio Robles is listed for Council District 4.
Those names are a filing-status snapshot, not a final certified ballot. The city says the record shows who pulled nomination papers and what was filed, but does not necessarily reflect the election materials that will be produced by the Sacramento County Registrar of Voters.
The filing record alone does not establish whether a person has qualified, withdrawn or been certified for the ballot. The field can also change before the regular deadline and, in some circumstances, during the possible extension period.
Possible Aug. 12 extension
The field could remain unsettled after Friday if an eligible incumbent does not file by the regular deadline.
Under the city’s notice, if an incumbent’s nomination documents are not filed by 5:00 p.m. Aug. 7, a qualified person other than that incumbent may file for the affected office by 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12.
The extension is conditional and does not apply in every race. The city specifically says it is not applicable when there is no incumbent eligible to be elected.
What Elk Grove voters should watch next
The immediate deadline is 5:00 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7. After that deadline, voters should check the City of Elk Grove’s election information and filing updates for any applicable extension announcement and changes to the filing snapshot.
The city’s July 31 list is useful for tracking nomination-paper activity, but it should not be treated as the final candidate lineup. Final election materials and the printed ballot will reflect the completed election process handled by the city and Sacramento County election officials.
