Fairfield-Area Gas Holds Near $5.50 While Diesel Rises Above $6.75
Fairfield-area regular gas is near $5.50 while diesel tops $6.75, with both fuels higher than a month ago, according to AAAโs August 1 snapshot.
Regular gasoline is holding nearly steady in the Fairfield area, but diesel is moving higher. AAAโs August 1, 2026, Vallejo-Fairfield price snapshot lists regular gas at an average of $5.503 per gallon and diesel at $6.762.
Regular gas is nearly flat
The Vallejo-Fairfield metro average for regular gasoline is up about 1 cent from the previous day, when it stood at $5.497. It is also up less than 1 cent from a week earlier, when the average was $5.495.
The larger change appears over the longer term. Regular gas is about 13 cents more expensive than it was one month ago, when AAA listed the Vallejo-Fairfield average at $5.377 per gallon. That means drivers may not notice much day-to-day movement, but fuel budgets are still higher than they were in early July.
Diesel is rising faster
Diesel prices are showing a clearer upward move. The Vallejo-Fairfield average reached $6.762 per gallon on August 1, up about 2 cents from the previous day and roughly 8 cents from a week earlier.
Compared with one month ago, diesel is up about 39 cents per gallon. That increase matters especially for contractors, delivery operators, freight businesses, agricultural operations, service companies and other commercial users that rely on diesel-powered vehicles or equipment.
One Fairfield station shows why comparison shopping matters
A 7-Eleven at 4449 Central Place in Fairfield listed regular gasoline at $5.319 and diesel at $6.219. The station says its fuel prices are updated within 24 hours.
Those figures are for one location, not a Fairfield-wide average, but they illustrate how pump prices can differ from the broader Vallejo-Fairfield metro numbers. Drivers comparing nearby stations may find meaningful differences, especially when filling larger tanks or commercial vehicles.
What the prices mean locally
For commuters and households, regular gasoline near $5.50 can add to the cost of daily travel and weekend trips even when the price appears stable from one day to the next. Contractors, delivery drivers, restaurants and service businesses may face greater pressure from dieselโs faster rise, particularly if fuel costs are built into transportation, delivery or operating budgets.
The latest figures do not establish why prices moved, but they show two different trends: regular gas is relatively flat in the short term, while diesel is climbing more quickly and remains substantially higher than it was a month ago.
