Fatal Plant Fire, Drone Pilot Launch, and Settlement Deadline Lead Local Headlines
Cincinnati, OH – March 13, 2026 – A deadly Fairfield plant fire, Hamilton’s new state drone pilot, and a looming settlement deadline top local news.
Greater Cincinnati is closing out the week with major developments spanning public safety, innovation and the courts.
Worker Killed in Fairfield Plant Fire
A massive fire and reported explosion at the Koch Foods poultry plant in Fairfield has left one worker dead and others injured.
The Butler County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 25-year-old Griffin Darrow. Officials say the fire began early Sunday morning and triggered a three-alarm response involving more than 100 firefighters. Part of the large facility suffered a roof collapse during the blaze.
At least two other workers were taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center with burns and have since been released. Authorities briefly issued a shelter-in-place order within a two-mile radius due to concerns about ammonia tanks, but air monitoring later showed no dangerous levels in surrounding neighborhoods.
Local, state and federal investigators are reviewing the cause of the fire.
Hamilton Joins Statewide Drone First Responder Pilot
The City of Hamilton has been selected as one of nine Ohio communities participating in a new statewide Drone First Responder pilot program.
Under the initiative, drone systems stationed in fixed docking locations can be launched immediately when certain 911 calls come in. The aircraft stream live video to dispatchers and first responders, providing overhead views of fires, crashes and other emergencies.
State officials say the program will roll out this spring. Hamilton police and fire leaders expect the drones to enhance situational awareness and speed up response decisions. Civil liberties advocates have raised privacy concerns, and lawmakers continue debating guardrails for law enforcement drone use.
Rumpke Data Settlement Deadline Approaches
Hamilton County residents impacted by the Rumpke data breach have just days left to file claims in a class action settlement.
The case, filed in the Hamilton County Court of Common Pleas, stems from a data incident that exposed personal information. The deadline to submit a claim form is March 19, 2026.
Eligible individuals may qualify for reimbursement of documented losses or other benefits under the agreement. Residents are encouraged to review the settlement details before the deadline passes.
