Fayetteville-area gas falls to $3.759; diesel eases to $4.814
Regular gasoline and diesel prices both eased in the latest AAA check for the Fayetteville-Springdale-Rogers metro, offering modest short-term relief while remaining well above their month-ago and year-ago levels.
Regular gas averaged $3.759 per gallon on Sunday, Aug. 2. That was down 1.8 cents from Saturday and 12 cents from a week earlier. Diesel averaged $4.814 per gallon, down 0.3 cents from Saturday and 5.2 cents from a week earlier.
Short-term relief, longer-term pressure
The recent decline has not erased the larger increase. The metro regular-gas average was 37.4 cents higher than a month ago and 96.5 cents higher than a year ago. Diesel was 53.5 cents higher than a month ago and $1.405 higher than a year ago.
Compared with the previous July 29 fuel-price check, regular gas is 8.6 cents lower and diesel is 3.2 cents lower. That points to some easing since the last update, but not a full reversal of the longer-term cost pressure.
How Fayetteville compares
AAA listed the Arkansas average at $3.738 for regular gas and $4.963 for diesel on Aug. 2. The national regular-gas average was $4.096. Those figures provide statewide and national context; they are not Fayetteville-area station prices.
The U.S. Energy Information Administration also tracks weekly gasoline and diesel prices nationally and by broader regions. Its data can help show the wider market direction, while AAA’s metro row is the more direct measure for the Fayetteville-Springdale-Rogers area.
What the change means locally
For daily commuters and households, a few cents of movement can slightly reduce the cost of filling a tank, especially for drivers who refuel frequently. Weekend travelers may also see differences from one station or community to another, making it worthwhile to compare prices before leaving town.
Diesel remains a heavier concern for contractors, landscapers, farmers, delivery operators and service businesses. Higher diesel costs can raise the expense of freight, equipment use, construction work, farm operations and service calls. Restaurants and other businesses that depend on deliveries may also feel those costs indirectly through transportation and supply expenses.
