Election Day: results timing could shift
In Cumberland County, polls are open today, March 3, from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. County election officials say early voting results may take longer to appear tonight because of a state-required software update. They expect tabulators at early-voting sites to print results tapes more slowly, and totals cannot be uploaded until all tapes from all early-voting locations are printed and verified. The county estimates a delay of about 1 to 4 hours after polls close for early-vote totals; Election Day precinct reporting is not expected to be impacted.
Fort Liberty: tighter gate protocols
Security has been increased at major North Carolina military bases, including Fort Liberty. The changes include mandatory ID checks for everyone entering and random vehicle inspections, which could add time at the gates during busy periods.
Commissioners meeting recap
At the March 2 meeting in Fayetteville, Cumberland County commissioners approved a consent agenda that included April meeting schedule changes, proclamations for Women’s History Month and Severe Weather Preparedness Week (March 1–7), and a contract with the Salvation Army. The board added a closed session for an attorney-client matter; afterward, officials reported receiving a legal update related to the county’s lawsuit involving Chemours, with no action taken. A State of the County address is scheduled for March 16 at 6 p.m.
Local sports
Fayetteville State won the CIAA men’s championship 71–68 over Bluefield State after a second-half comeback, adding a fresh highlight for the city’s college sports scene.
