Fayetteville Daily Brief: Southpoint Water Pressure, Foam Recycling, Hazard Plan Feedback
Fayetteville, NC – March 6, 2026 – Low water pressure advisory in Southpoint, new foam recycling drop-offs, and a draft hazard plan open for public comment.
Water notice: Southpoint pressure running low
Cumberland County Public Utilities says some customers in the Southpoint Water District may see lower-than-normal water pressure while a regional supplier repairs a well. Officials said there is no boil water advisory in effect. Repairs are expected to take several days, and the county asked residents to watch official updates. For service questions, the county is directing customers to Public Utilities.
Foam recycling expands at Ann Street Landfill
Residents now have a new option for hard-to-recycle foam. County Solid Waste Management has installed a foam densifier at the Ann Street Landfill that can compact and recycle polystyrene items such as foam cups and takeout containers, egg cartons, and block packaging foam. The county says accepted foam can be dropped at any county container site and will be processed through the new equipment.
Hazard mitigation plan draft open for public comment
Cumberland and Hoke counties are asking residents to review and comment on a draft regional hazard mitigation plan, a long-range roadmap meant to reduce risk from disasters like flooding, hurricanes, severe storms, wildfires, and winter weather. The public comment deadline is March 13.
Transit: study outlines possible express routes
The city’s transit system says a recent feasibility study identified six potential regional express routes, including links between Hope Mills and west Fayetteville, Fort Bragg and Fayetteville Regional Airport, and Spring Lake and Fayetteville. The study also recommends planning for a second facility in west Fayetteville to support future growth, alongside new funding aimed at replacing older diesel buses with electric and hybrid vehicles.
Business & workforce: defense-tech summit draws crowds
A recent regional innovation summit at the Crown Complex brought together defense, government, academia, and industry partners, with organizers highlighting workforce and STEM investments alongside growing local innovation hubs tied to Fort Bragg and downtown Fayetteville.
