Water disinfectant changeover starts today
Starting Sunday, Fayetteville Public Works Commission is shifting its water disinfection process from chloramines to free chlorine for a roughly monthlong changeover. The switch is a routine requirement aimed at keeping bacteria from building up in the system, and the utility says the water remains safe to use.
What you might notice at the tap during March:
- A mild chlorine taste or odor
- Temporary discoloration or small particles as the system flushes
- Occasional low water pressure in some neighborhoods
Customers who normally pre-treat water to remove chloramines (including some medical providers, manufacturers and aquarium owners) are advised to continue those steps throughout the changeover.
City Council’s next meeting moved to March 5
Fayetteville City Council’s next regular meeting has been shifted from Tuesday to Thursday, March 5, because of the March 3 election. The meeting is set for 5:30 p.m. at City Hall.
Items expected to be discussed include multiple rezoning requests, a proposal connected to the Chandler Crossing area near North Crossover Road and East Zion Road, and a request tied to a sewer-damage claim. Residents can attend in person or follow the meeting remotely via the city’s livestream options.
Fayetteville State brings home the CIAA title
Fayetteville State University’s men’s basketball team captured the 2026 CIAA championship with a 71–68 win over Bluefield State. The Broncos rallied after halftime, and Terrell Williams led the way with 29 points on the day and earned tournament MVP honors.
For Fayetteville sports fans, it’s the kind of postseason moment that tends to echo well beyond campus: a tight finish, a trophy, and an easy excuse to wear your school colors into the new week.
