Fort Deposit’s $102,000 industrial-site grant moves economic-development work forward
Fort Deposit is moving ahead with an assessment of its 52-acre industrial park using a $102,000 Alabama SEEDS grant and a $25,500 match from LLB Inc., which owns Fort Deposit Industrial Park.
The work is intended to give prospective companies more detailed information for evaluating whether the site is suitable for development. It is a site-preparation and due-diligence project, not an announcement of a confirmed employer, tenant, building project or construction schedule.
State grant round was approved in February
On February 6, 2026, the Alabama State Industrial Development Authority announced approval of a statewide round of SEEDS grants that included site-assessment support for Lowndes County.
SEEDS stands for Site Evaluation and Economic Development Strategy. The program supports work such as environmental surveys, site preparation and infrastructure improvements intended to make industrial properties easier to evaluate and market for economic-development projects.
Fort Deposit-specific details about the $102,000 award, the $25,500 match, the 52-acre park and the planned study scope were reported by Business Alabama on April 29, 2026.
What the assessment will examine
The planned assessment is expected to include:
- A boundary survey and report
- A title search
- A topographical survey and report
- A wetland assessment
- Water and sewage system design
- An environmental-risk assessment
Together, those studies are expected to clarify the property’s boundaries and ownership history, physical characteristics, wetland conditions, environmental risks and utility or infrastructure requirements. That information can help a company determine whether a site fits its needs before proceeding with more detailed plans.
Town and business are sharing the work
The $25,500 match from LLB Inc. would bring the total funding for the assessment to $127,500. The arrangement represents a public-private partnership involving the Town of Fort Deposit and the business that owns the industrial park.
Business Alabama reported that Mayor Madelene Means described the updated assessment as a way for potential investors to understand the park’s readiness. Her comments about existing water, gas and sewer service extending toward the interstate are attributed statements, not an independent engineering finding established by the available sources.
Next milestone is expected in late 2026
The assessment is expected to be completed in late 2026. Once finished, its reports could give Fort Deposit and prospective companies a more complete factual record for considering future industrial use.
No company or specific development has been publicly identified in the available sources. For now, the immediate project in Fort Deposit is the funded assessment itself; any tenant, jobs announcement or construction plan would be a separate later step.
