Today’s local headlines
Here are a few Fort Worth stories to know as Tuesday gets going, ranging from public safety to schools and neighborhood development.
Police: 2 arrested after a reported AR-15 threat and a pursuit
Two people were taken into custody after officers say a driver refused to stop and led police on a pursuit Saturday afternoon. Police said the call that triggered the response involved a report that a man pointed an AR-15 near Avenue E, and officers later recovered a gun that investigators say was thrown from the SUV during the chase.
Officials said they were unable to reach the original caller afterward, and information about charges and identities had not been released at the time of reporting.
Fort Worth ISD set to vote on a designated time for prayer or religious text reading
The Fort Worth school board is scheduled to vote Tuesday on whether to adopt a policy that would create designated time for prayer or reading religious texts during the school day. The vote follows a state requirement that Texas school boards take formal action on the issue by March 1.
District administrators, according to agenda materials, do not recommend adopting the resolution, noting students already may pray during the school day.
$63M Historic Southside ‘urban village’ could break ground this summer
A long-planned mixed-use project near Evans Avenue and East Rosedale Street is being described as only months away from the start of construction. Plans discussed with residents include new housing, retail space, and community-focused amenities intended to add activity and services along a key corridor in the Historic Southside area.
Warmup ahead, but gusty winds could raise fire danger
A quick warming trend is expected this week, with strong south winds in the mix. Forecasters are urging extra caution because dry conditions and gusts can elevate wildfire risk, especially in open areas and around any outdoor burning or sparks.
