1) Fatal crash shuts down I-880 near Decoto

A predawn multi-vehicle crash on southbound Interstate 880 near the Decoto Road off-ramp left at least one person dead Tuesday morning, according to traffic investigators. The wreck was reported around 4 a.m., and responding officers temporarily blocked lanes while crews worked the scene.

All lanes were reported reopened a little before 6 a.m., but officials indicated the investigation was continuing and additional details may follow.

2) DoorDash tests a delivery robot in downtown Fremont

DoorDash has begun rolling out a small fleet of sidewalk delivery robots, branded as ‘Dot,’ in Fremont as part of a local pilot. The city has authorized an encroachment permit that runs into 2027, and the rollout is expected to start with a limited number of supervised units.

The pilot is timed to coincide with the city’s upcoming restaurant-focused promotions, when foot traffic and takeout orders typically climb.

3) Civic talk scheduled on church-state separation

A local voter-education speaker series is set to host a Saturday morning program in Niles focused on the constitutional concept often described as separation of church and state. Organizers say the session will cover how religious freedom and government neutrality show up in public life and in the courts.

The event is listed as free to attend, with donations accepted, and is scheduled for March 7 at Niles Discovery Church on Niles Boulevard.
