Gallatin voters prepare for Aug. 6 primary, judicial questions and county election
Gallatin-area voters will go to the polls Thursday, August 6, for Tennessee’s federal and state primaries, state judicial retention questions and the Sumner County general election.
The Sumner County Election Commission has posted Republican, Democratic, general and condensed sample ballots for the election. Voters should review the official ballot for their district because the offices, candidates and questions shown can vary by ballot type and voting district.
What is on the August 6 ballot
The election combines federal and state primary contests with judicial retention questions and Sumner County races. The official condensed ballot lists contests that may include governor, U.S. Senate, U.S. House, Tennessee House, state executive committee, Sumner County mayor, county commission, trustee, sheriff, county clerk, register of deeds, road superintendent and school board.
The ballot also includes retention questions for judges on the Tennessee Supreme Court, Court of Appeals and Court of Criminal Appeals. A retention question asks voters whether a named judge should remain in office or be replaced.
Not every Gallatin voter will see every contest. The official ballot states that candidates appear only in their respective districts, so voters should confirm the correct Republican, Democratic or general ballot before voting.
Gallatin early voting has ended
The official condensed ballot lists Hartsville Pike Church of Christ, 744 Hartsville Pike, Gallatin, TN 37066, as a Gallatin early-voting location for this election.
Early voting ran from Friday, July 17, through Saturday, August 1, 2026. That period had ended by Tuesday, August 4, so the Hartsville Pike church should not be treated as an available early-voting site now or as an Election Day polling place unless the Election Commission separately confirms it.
Deadlines and photo identification
The condensed ballot lists July 7, 2026, as the last day to register to vote and July 27, 2026, as the last day to request and mail an absentee ballot. Both deadlines have passed for the August 6 election.
Voters must present a Tennessee or federally issued photo identification in order to vote, according to the official condensed ballot.
How to verify your ballot
The Election Commission has posted Republican, Democratic, general and condensed sample ballots. Gallatin residents should use those official materials to confirm the contests and candidates applicable to their district and ballot type before voting.

Gallatin city races are separate
The Election Commission’s candidate record lists candidates for Gallatin mayor and alderman separately from the August federal and state primary, judicial retention and Sumner County general election. Those municipal candidates are associated with the city election scheduled for November 3, 2026, and should not be confused with the August 6 ballot.
Before voting Thursday, residents should verify their district-specific ballot and any polling-place details with the Sumner County Election Commission.
