West Side power outage resolved after cable fault

City officials report that more than 1,000 electric customers on Geneva’s West Side briefly lost power Friday afternoon after an underground cable fault cut service to the South Street substation. Most customers saw service restored within about 30 minutes, though a second disruption left around 130 customers still without power shortly after 3 p.m. Neighborhoods most affected included Randall Square and Pepper Valley, along with portions of the Randall Road corridor. Residents experiencing new outages are being asked to call the non-emergency police line so on-call electric crews can be dispatched.

Park District job fair and Super Shuffle weekend

The Geneva Park District is turning this Super Bowl weekend into a chance to both find work and give back locally. A job fair is scheduled for late Saturday morning at the Stephen Persinger Recreation Center, geared toward residents 16 and older who are interested in seasonal, part-time, or full-time positions across parks, recreation, and facilities. Staff will be on hand to talk about openings, schedules, and how different roles fit around school and family commitments.

On Sunday morning, runners and walkers will line up for the 16th annual Super Shuffle 5K, starting near Geneva Middle School South. The race goes on snow or shine and serves as a fundraiser for the district’s scholarship fund, which helps make programs and camps more affordable for families who need assistance. Even if you are not racing, expect extra foot traffic and activity around Viking Drive late Sunday morning.

Vikings in the basketball spotlight

Geneva High School’s boys basketball team took the short trip to Batavia on Friday night for the latest chapter in their long-running rivalry. A new photo gallery from the game highlights a packed gym, physical defense, and plenty of drives to the rim as the Bulldogs hosted the Vikings. It’s another sign that the conference season is hitting its stride, with local teams jockeying for position ahead of the postseason.

Looking a bit further ahead

Families are already eyeing mid-February traditions. The park district’s Daughter Date Night is set for Sunday, February 15, with dancing and activities planned at the Geneva High School gym.
