Glendale Daily Briefing: Park Upgrades, Road Safety, City Updates
Glendale, AZ – February 21, 2026 – Park upgrades, recent road incidents, and city services updates are in focus for Glendale residents today.
Bonsall Park North unveils $3.3 million upgrade
Glendale residents are getting a major refresh at Bonsall Park North, where the city is celebrating a $3.3 million renovation of roughly eight acres of recreation space. The project adds new pickleball and basketball courts, updated volleyball areas, and a compact mini-pitch for small-sided soccer.
The upgrade also improves the setting around the park’s historic F-100 Super Sabre jet, a longtime landmark that has been re-framed with new landscaping and gathering space. City leaders are marking the improvements with a ribbon-cutting event today, giving neighbors a first look at the expanded amenities and encouraging more year-round outdoor play.
The park, at the northeast corner of Bethany Home Road and 59th Avenue, is expected to be a busier hub for leagues, casual play, and family outings as the weather warms and spring sports ramp up.
Camelback Road highlighted after serious recent crashes
Traffic safety along Camelback Road remains a talking point in Glendale after two high-profile incidents in the past week and a half.
Near 93rd Avenue, an early-morning collision on February 11 left at least one person with life-threatening injuries and shut down Camelback between 91st and 95th avenues for hours while investigators documented the scene. Multiple vehicles were involved, and police continue to review what led up to the crash.
Farther east at 57th Avenue and Camelback, another incident created a hazardous situation when a driver reportedly rammed a tanker truck that was hauling oxygen. Crews worked to secure the tanker and offload the contents. No bystanders were hurt, but the crash forced closures and a large emergency response.
City officials continue to emphasize slowing down, watching for turning traffic, and giving emergency crews space along this heavily traveled corridor that connects neighborhoods, shopping centers, and major event routes.
City reminds residents about services and safety resources
As spring approaches, Glendale is also steering residents toward city services that support day-to-day quality of life. The city’s online portal highlights transportation planning efforts, including future corridor improvements and traffic mitigation tools, as well as programs like neighborhood code compliance and volunteer opportunities with public safety teams.
Parks and recreation staff are promoting registration for adult and youth sports, as well as seasonal updates at recreation centers and aquatics facilities. Residents can also use the city’s digital tools to check event calendars, request service, and track information on household hazardous waste drop-offs and other 2026 programs.
