Glendale Daily Briefing: Park Upgrades, Weather Watch, And Sports Buzz
Glendale, AZ – February 18, 2026 – Glendale unveils a major park upgrade, prepares for changing weather, and celebrates local ties to racing and the NFL.
Bonsall Park North set for $3.3 million grand reveal
Glendale is getting ready to show off a major upgrade at Bonsall Park North, where the city has invested about $3.3 million into an 8-acre transformation. The revamped park adds eight pickleball courts, four basketball courts, a mini soccer-style pitch and two volleyball courts, aiming to give residents more space for outdoor play and league activity.
The renovation also refreshes the display area for the park’s historic F-100 Super Sabre jet, a longtime landmark that has stood there since the early 1970s. City leaders plan a public ribbon-cutting on Friday morning, February 21, at 9 a.m., inviting neighbors to walk the new paths and try out the courts once the ceremony wraps.
The park sits near Bethany Home Road and 59th Avenue, making it a central option for families and rec leagues across Glendale’s west side. City officials say the project is part of a broader push to modernize parks and add more health-focused amenities.
Weather: Cooler pattern settles in across the Valley
After a stretch of mild, sunny afternoons, forecasters say metro Phoenix, including Glendale, is shifting toward a cooler and wetter pattern this week. A Pacific storm system is expected to bring periods of rain to the Valley while dropping snow in higher elevations to the north.
For Glendale residents, that means a better chance of showers, breezy conditions and slightly below-normal daytime highs over the next couple of days. Drivers are urged to leave extra time for commutes if rain arrives during morning or evening rush hours, and to watch for slick spots on freeways and major arterials.
Racing and football keep Glendale in the sports conversation
On the sports side, Glendale continues to get national attention tied to racing and football. Local driver Michael McDowell, who grew up in the West Valley, is back in the NASCAR spotlight with another run at the Daytona 500. In recent interviews he has pointed to his Arizona roots and talked about the excitement around big events returning to the state, including future INDYCAR action at Phoenix-area tracks.
Glendale is also back in the long-range NFL discussion as analysts look ahead to where future Super Bowls will land after this year’s game in Santa Clara and next year’s in the Los Angeles area. While no new championship has been awarded to State Farm Stadium yet, the city remains on the short list of proven hosts thanks to its past Super Bowl record and entertainment district built up around the venue.
Together, the park investment, changing weather and ongoing sports buzz show a city that is still growing, tuning up its public spaces and staying plugged into national conversations.
