Grand Rapids voters have one more weekend for early voting before the August 4 primary

Grand Rapids voters have one more weekend to cast ballots early before the Tuesday, August 4, 2026, primary election.

Early voting is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, August 1, and Sunday, August 2, at three city locations. The City Clerk’s Office is also open Saturday for voter registration, but it is not an early-voting site.

Early-voting locations

Grand Rapids lists these early-voting sites for both weekend days:

• St. Peter and Paul School, 1430 Quarry Ave. NW, gymnasium
• GRPS University, 1400 Fuller Ave. NE, gymnasium
• Ottawa Hills High School, 2055 Rosewood SE, old cafeteria

All three locations are scheduled to be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, August 1, and Sunday, August 2.

Registration is available at City Hall

The City Clerk’s Office at City Hall, 300 Monroe Ave. NW, second floor, is scheduled to be open Saturday, August 1, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. for voter registration.

Eligible residents may register through 8 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, August 4. The regular mail and online registration deadline was Monday, July 20. From Tuesday, July 21, through Election Day, registration must be completed in person with the local clerk and with proof of residency.

Voters who need to register or update their information should bring the required proof of residency and allow time for the process. City Clerk staff are also listed as available at early-voting sites to assist with registration.

Absentee ballots must be received by 8 p.m.

Voted absentee ballots must be received by the city by 8 p.m. Tuesday, August 4, to be counted. Voters returning ballots close to the deadline should use a delivery method that can meet the city’s receipt deadline.

The city lists these election drop boxes as available 24/7:

• 300 Ottawa Ave. NW, across from Calder Plaza
• VanBelkum Library, 1563 Plainfield Ave. NE, curbside
• Yankee Clipper Library, 2025 Leonard St. NE, at the bike rack
• Westside Library, 713 Bridge St. NW, parking-lot side
• West Leonard Library, 1017 Leonard St. NW, east parking lot
• Ottawa Hills Library, 1150 Giddings Ave. SE, curbside
• Madison Square Library, 1201 Madison Ave. SE, at the building entrance
• Main Library, 110 Fountain St. NE, on the north side across from the library
• Seymour Library Branch, 2350 Eastern Ave. SE, in the parking lot behind the library

The city also says election drop boxes are available at City Hall during City Hall operating hours on the Monroe and Calder Plaza levels. Voters should verify the current list and any updates before traveling.

Check your ballot before voting

Before heading to an early-voting site, Grand Rapids residents should check their registration status, precinct information and precinct-specific sample ballot through Michigan’s voter information system. Ballots can differ by precinct.

The final deadline is 8 p.m. Tuesday, August 4. Voters choosing early voting, in-person registration or absentee-ballot return should confirm the latest city instructions before leaving home.
