Greektown’s streetscape work is reopening key blocks just as summer traffic peaks
Detroit’s Greektown Monroe Streetscape reopens part of Monroe and Beaubien for summer, but Monroe/St. Antoine restrictions run into July—check before you go.
Greektown’s Monroe Streetscape work is shifting into a more summer-friendly access phase, but drivers and visitors still need to plan around active restrictions.
On June 19, 2026, WXYZ reported the first Monroe Street stretch—from Beaubien to St. Antoine—was reopened for the season. ([wxyz.com](Wxyz)) WDIV also reported Beaubien Street is open again for both vehicles and pedestrians.
What’s reopened (per local reporting)
• Monroe Street: WXYZ says the Beaubien-to-St.-Antoine segment is open. ([wxyz.com](Wxyz))
• Beaubien Street: WDIV says it reopened for vehicles and pedestrians.
What’s still restricted (per the official road-closure update)
Even with those reopenings, the Downtown Detroit Partnership still lists ongoing restrictions for the Monroe Streetscape area:
• Intersection closure at Monroe/St. Antoine through July
• Full vehicle closure of Monroe between Randolph and St. Antoine
• Full vehicle closure of Beaubien between Lafayette and Macomb through December
Because the official status may differ by block and by vehicle vs. pedestrian access, the safest plan is to check the Downtown Detroit Partnership road-closure page right before you leave.
Parking and pedestrian access practicals
The Downtown Detroit Partnership also notes:
• Pedestrian access will be maintained
• St. Antoine will be converted to two-way traffic during construction
• On-street parking is available on Lafayette, Fort, Macomb and Beaubien
• Greektown Casino Parking is accessible from I-375 and Macomb
Why “streetscape” is more than repaving (city context)
The City of Detroit describes a streetscape as corridor improvements aimed at improving safety and quality of life, with features that can include sidewalks, bicycle lanes, improved lighting, landscaping, and neighborhood branding. ([detroitmi.gov](Detroitmi)) The City also lists Monroe as an in-progress streetscape project.
Bottom line: Some access improvements are underway for summer visitors and customers—but restrictions around the Monroe/St. Antoine area still run into July. Check the Downtown Detroit Partnership’s update before heading downtown.
