Harlem moves ahead with North Harlem Park construction and City Park safety improvements

Harlem’s City Park renovations were winding down in January, with an opening ceremony expected within weeks, according to the city’s monthly newsletter. The city also said speed bumps were anticipated within the perimeter of City Park to slow drivers and improve safety for children. The city has not publicly confirmed whether those speed bumps have been installed.

Construction at North Harlem Park was expected to begin within weeks. The project is planned to include a playground, splash pad and paving, with construction described as a six-month project. The January update did not establish whether that projected schedule was met, and the city has not announced a confirmed opening date for North Harlem Park.

The improvements are expected to affect park users, nearby drivers and city maintenance schedules as Harlem adds or reopens recreation amenities. Residents will have the next scheduled opportunity to address city business at the Harlem City Council’s regular meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 24, 2026, at the Harlem Public Safety Building, 110 W. Milledgeville Road. Public-comment requests are due by 2 p.m. the Friday before the meeting.
