Hershey High School stadium work changes campus access through summer 2026
Stadium construction at Hershey High School changed how students, families and community members reached parts of the campus after work began during the week of January 6, 2026.
The Derry Township School District closed portions of the campus to pedestrian and vehicle traffic and issued temporary route changes for three principal user groups: walkers, students accessing the Derry Township Community Center and users of the secondary bus corral.
The district expected the construction phase to conclude in summer 2026. However, the approved records do not confirm whether construction was completed by August 6 or whether the temporary routes have been restored.
Walking routes changed around construction
Students and other walkers were redirected to a path in front of the Early Childhood Center. That route connected with the community center and routes leading toward Cocoa Avenue.
Students accessing the Derry Township Community Center were directed to use a bridge in front of the Early Childhood Center or an alternate path along the 322 field and the western high-school parking lots. The district also encouraged community members crossing the campus to use alternate walking routes.
These changes affected access to the high school and community center without establishing that all Derry Township roads or schools were closed. The districtโs notice specifically identified portions of the Hershey campus and the routes around the construction area.
Bus access also received a temporary change
The secondary bus corral received a temporary pathway around construction zones. That arrangement was part of the districtโs broader effort to maintain pedestrian, vehicle and bus access while work continued.
The route changes were described as temporary and were expected to remain in place until construction concluded in summer 2026. The notice did not provide the projectโs total cost or a detailed construction scope, and the approved material does not establish whether the project ran over budget or fell behind schedule.
District records are the next source for an update
The Derry Township School District maintains public board meetings and official action minutes. The districtโs board-meeting information for the 2026โ2027 cycle explains that official actions are recorded in board minutes, providing the next known public record for follow-up on the project and any restoration of normal campus access.
For now, the confirmed timeline is that stadium construction began January 6, 2026, and was expected to finish during summer 2026. A current completion date, the stadiumโs opening status and the present condition of the temporary routes remain unconfirmed in the approved sources.
