Hoover council to hear Valleydale ER, Lorna Road and school proposals

Hoover City Council is scheduled to hear public comments and consider action Aug. 10 on three land-use matters: a proposed freestanding emergency department on Valleydale Road, a day habilitation and respite-services program on Lorna Road, and de-annexation of church property on Cahaba Valley Road for a private K-8 Christian school.

The meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Hoover City Hall. The emergency-department hearing concerns a proposed 11,430-square-foot facility at 2137 Valleydale Road. Hoover’s Planning and Zoning Commission voted 8-0 on July 6 to recommend approval of the stand-alone Grandview Medical Center facility. The project received state approval in May 2024.

A traffic study cited in local reporting estimated that the relevant section of Valleydale Road carried about 25,000 vehicles per day in 2024. It projected about 20 additional vehicle trips during peak hours from the emergency department.

The council also will hear the proposal for a day habilitation and respite-services program at 3309 Lorna Road, Suite 203. The second reading and public comment on a proposed ordinance would remove 7.33 acres of church property on Cahaba Valley Road from Hoover’s city limits. The property is proposed for a K-8 Christian school described as serving about 44 students, with projected growth to about 80.

Hoover has not yet posted final votes or meeting minutes for these matters. The Aug. 10 council meeting is the next scheduled step.
