Huntington Station Hub Sewer Work Continues With Nighttime Route 110 Lane Restrictions and 2027 Operations Projection

Nighttime sewer construction is scheduled to continue in Huntington Station through August 16, with work affecting New York Avenue and Route 110, nearby intersections and restoration areas.

The Suffolk County Department of Public Works’ two-week look-ahead schedule covers Monday, August 3, through Sunday, August 16, 2026. It lists work generally scheduled from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., subject to weather, construction requirements and changing conditions.

Where work is scheduled

The schedule calls for force-main sewer installation along New York Avenue/Route 110, moving south from designated manhole locations. Road restoration is listed between New York Avenue and East 2nd Street, including the segment identified as SMH-03 to SMH-04.

Additional restoration is scheduled from 22nd Street south on New York Avenue. The look-ahead also lists restoration work near Pulaski Road and Depot Road.

During the listed operations, one lane is scheduled to be closed and traffic will alternate through the work area. The schedule identifies local residents and emergency vehicles in the work notes, meaning drivers and nearby properties should expect changing access conditions while crews are present.

Access and restoration effects

The current two-week schedule does not describe a full road closure. Nearby residents, businesses and commuters may nevertheless encounter temporary access changes as crews work around curbs, sidewalks, approaches and driveways.

The project’s general construction notice says traffic lanes may be reduced to one lane for alternating northbound and southbound local traffic and emergency vehicles. It also says short-duration road closures may be necessary during particular construction operations. The notice states that specific detour notifications will be issued if conditions differ from the planned traffic controls.

The August schedule also lists lateral-connection work for 13 properties. That number applies to the properties identified for work during this look-ahead period; it does not establish that every Huntington Station property will receive a connection during these dates.

Part of a larger Huntington Station sewer project

The Town of Huntington identifies the work as a county-town effort. The town’s Huntington Station Sewer Project page says Suffolk County, in conjunction with the Town of Huntington, is installing sewer lines along New York Avenue and using the page to provide community updates, closures and project details.

Suffolk County’s 2025 State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds report describes the broader Huntington Station Hub Wastewater Conveyance and Collection System as a project intended to extend sewer service around the Huntington Railroad Station and south along New York State Route 110.

The county report lists $22.2 million in American Rescue Plan funding for the project. It also says the Town of Huntington allocated $22 million, Suffolk County matched that amount with another $22 million, and New York State allocated $22 million, bringing the combined funding described in the report to approximately $66 million.

2027 remains a projection

The same county report lists 2027 as the project’s “projected/actual initiation of operations.” That wording makes 2027 a county-recorded projection, not a guaranteed completion date. The current two-week schedule confirms planned construction activity for August 3-16, but it does not establish that the project is ahead of schedule, on budget or certain to begin operations in 2027.

Residents and commuters should monitor future Town of Huntington and Suffolk County notices for updated two-week schedules, traffic-control changes and timing for property-connection work. The immediate issue is nighttime construction and alternating traffic; the longer-term milestone remains the county’s projected 2027 start of operations.
