Inverness Roadwork on South Apopka Avenue Remains Active, City Warns of Closures and Detours

Paving work remained underway on South Apopka Avenue within Inverness city limits as of July 10, 2026, and the City warned motorists to plan for continuing traffic disruptions.

In a July 10 reminder, the City of Inverness said drivers should expect delays, temporary road closures and detours throughout the project area. Motorists were advised to use caution, allow additional travel time and follow posted signs and directions from construction crews.

Access is expected to remain available

The City said access for local residents, mail delivery and emergency services would remain available while work continued. The notice did not provide a daily closure timetable, a specific detour route or a completion date.

Citrus County is responsible for the project

The current work follows a City notice posted May 8, 2026, which said Citrus County would begin a paving project within Inverness city limits on Wednesday, May 13. That notice also warned that multiple road closures were expected in the South Apopka Avenue area while local traffic for residents, mail and emergency services would remain available.

Citrus County procurement records describe the project as a Small County Outreach Program road-resurfacing contract for South Apopka Avenue from East Anna Jo Drive to U.S. 41. The bid-record description calls for milling and resurfacing approximately 3.6 miles of roadway, along with pavement markings and traffic-control work.

That procurement record describes the planned contract scope. It does not establish the exact construction sequence or field conditions on any particular day.

No public finish date confirmed

The City’s July 10 reminder confirmed that paving was still continuing, but it did not identify when the project would be completed or specify which portions of the avenue would close on particular dates.

Drivers using South Apopka Avenue should rely on current field signs and instructions from crews, allow extra time and be prepared for conditions to change as work advances through Inverness.
