Iola voters face Aug. 11 primary as early voting begins July 28

Iola voters have several dates to track before the Aug. 11, 2026, partisan primary. In-person absentee voting begins Tuesday, July 28, and the Village of Iola will hold a public test of its ImageCast Evolution tabulating machine on Tuesday, Aug. 4.

The primary is 15 days away as of July 27. Election Day voting will take place at Iola Village Hall, 180 South Main Street, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Early voting starts July 28

Iola residents can vote in person at the municipal clerk’s office from July 28 through Aug. 7 during the village’s posted clerk-office hours:

• Monday and Tuesday: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• Wednesday and Thursday: 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
• Friday: 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Those hours are specific to the Village of Iola. Wisconsin municipalities may post different in-person absentee schedules, so voters who live outside the village should confirm their own clerk’s information.

Public test set for Aug. 4

The Village of Iola says it will conduct a required public test of the ImageCast Evolution tabulating machine that will be used for the Aug. 11 primary. The test is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, at Iola Village Hall, 180 South Main Street.

The test is open to the public. It is part of the election-preparation process and is not described by the village as a response to a machine problem.

Deadlines for registration and absentee ballots

Wisconsin MyVote lists these deadlines for the Aug. 11 partisan primary:

• Thursday, Aug. 6, at 5 p.m.: Regular and overseas voters must have absentee-ballot requests received by the municipal clerk.
• Friday, Aug. 7, at 5 p.m.: Voters must register in person at the municipal clerk’s office by this deadline.
• Tuesday, Aug. 11, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.: Election Day registration remains available at the polling place with proof of residence.
• Tuesday, Aug. 11, at 8 p.m.: Completed absentee ballots must be received by the municipal clerk.

The July 22 deadlines for registering by mail or online have already passed for this primary. Voters requesting an absentee ballot should also allow time for the ballot to be delivered and returned. Wisconsin does not treat an Election Day postmark as sufficient; the ballot must be in the clerk’s hands by the 8 p.m. deadline.

Choose one party’s primary

Wisconsin has open partisan primaries, so voters do not need to be affiliated with a political party before voting. On the ballot, however, voters must choose one party’s primary. Voting for candidates in more than one party’s primary can invalidate votes in those contests.
