Jefferson County bridge closure on Bottom Road is already affecting Reynoldsville-area travel
Bottom Road is closed in Jefferson County through Sept. 30 for a PennDOT bridge replacement, adding a longer detour for Reynoldsville-area drivers.
Drivers in and around Reynoldsville should plan for a longer detour on Jefferson County roads through the end of September.
PennDOT says Bottom Road is closed for a bridge replacement between Roseville Sigel Road and Ferguson Road. The closure began April 13 and is scheduled to remain in place through Sept. 30, with a posted detour carrying traffic around the work zone.
The project is not inside Reynoldsville borough limits, but it still matters for people who use county roads for work, school runs, errands, farm access, and deliveries. Rural road closures can add time to routine trips, especially for drivers connecting smaller roads instead of staying on larger routes.
PennDOT says the bridge replacement is expected to cost about $1.18 million. That is a modest public-works project in state terms, but one that can still create a noticeable travel disruption while the road is shut down.
For Reynoldsville-area residents, the main takeaway is simple: do not assume Bottom Road is passable right now. Anyone headed toward the closed segment should build in extra time and check the route before leaving, especially if the trip involves hauling supplies, making deliveries, or getting children to school or activities.
The closure also matters for local businesses that depend on steady movement through rural Jefferson County. A detour that lasts several months can affect fuel use, delivery schedules, and customer access across the county.
PennDOT’s schedule currently runs through Sept. 30, so the closure should be treated as an ongoing planning issue rather than a brief disruption. Drivers who regularly use the area should keep alternate routes in mind for the rest of the summer and early fall.
For now, the safest approach is to expect delays, follow the posted detour, and allow extra time on trips that would normally pass through the Bottom Road corridor.
