Health care: Heights ER gets a two-week reprieve

Heights University Hospital (formerly Christ Hospital) is now expected to keep its emergency department running until 7 p.m. on March 14, after a planned Feb. 28 shutdown sparked backlash from staff, residents, and local officials. The operator said it will cover roughly $1 million in costs to keep the ER open during the extension, while talks continue with state health regulators and local leaders.

Hudson County commissioners also moved this weekend to press the state for a longer-term solution, approving a resolution urging state action to ensure continued emergency care in the Heights and signaling interest in an investigatory committee around the hospital’s situation.

Development: Affordable housing planned at former Pompidou site

The city says it will pivot the long-stalled Centre Pompidou project site at 808 Pavonia Ave. in Journal Square toward affordable housing. City leaders said the previous museum plan no longer had a financially workable path, and the developer is now proposing a housing-focused alternative for the parcel.

Public safety: Police seek help locating missing teen

Jersey City police issued a public request for help finding Diamond Ruiz, a 16-year-old reported missing since Sept. 25, 2025. Police said she is known to frequent Brown Place, Orient Avenue, Martin Luther King Drive, and Audubon Park. Anyone with information was asked to contact the department’s Juvenile Bureau or Missing Person Unit.

Transit & civic life: PATH disruptions and a downtown march

PATH riders are also navigating a stretch of weekend service disruptions tied to signal and track work, with shuttle buses replacing certain segments during selected weekends through late April. Impacts vary by weekend, but riders should plan for longer trips around Journal Square, Grove Street, Harrison, and Newark Penn.

Meanwhile, a youth-led march that started near the Grove Street PATH station drew a crowd downtown Sunday, with speakers calling for immigrant protections and criticizing recent enforcement activity across Hudson County.
