Pompidou plan is officially off; Journal Square project pivots toward affordable housing

Jersey City has formally ended plans tied to a Centre Pompidou satellite museum and is now negotiating a new direction for 808 Pavonia Avenue in Journal Square. The city says it will work with the developer to add an affordable housing component in the two-tower project that had been approved to include museum space, and it is also exploring how to incorporate community space.

The museum concept previously lost public funding support after financial viability concerns were raised, including a reported operating-budget gap. The city says specifics on affordability levels and the number of units are expected later.

City officials say police have made 17 arrests for illegal handgun possession so far this year and recovered 32 firearms in total. Bank of America expands its Newport footprint with a 17-floor office build-out

Bank of America is building out additional office space at Newport Tower, 525 Washington Boulevard, adding roughly 548,000 square feet across 17 floors. Work is underway, with phased readiness cited as soon as this summer and full completion expected by late 2026. The site sits across from the Newport PATH station and is connected into the Newport Centre area.
