ICE Operations in Jersey City

Over the weekend, ICE agents conducted operations in Jersey City, Hoboken, and New Brunswick, detaining multiple individuals, including some on NJ Transit light rail. Local officials and advocacy groups have urged residents to document ICE activities, citing concerns over random detentions and unmarked vehicles. Mayor James Solomon confirmed the detentions, stating individuals were apprehended ‘at random on their way to work.’

Pedestrian Incidents Reported

On January 29, a pedestrian was injured near Jefferson Avenue and Summit Avenue. The individual complained of pain in the left leg and hip and was transported to a medical facility for further evaluation. The severity of the injuries and the circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.

Additionally, on January 30, emergency responders attended to a pedestrian injury near Fremont Street. The injured person was transported by ambulance for medical assessment. Details regarding the cause of the incident and the extent of the injuries are still being determined by authorities.

Upcoming Events at NJCU

New Jersey City University (NJCU) has announced several events in celebration of Black History Month. The opening ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, February 4, from 12 to 1 p.m. Other events include the Annual Bob Marley Bash on Thursday, February 5, and the ‘HOME HERE’ exhibition at the NJCU Visual Arts Gallery, running from February 5 to March 5, with an opening reception on February 5 from 4 to 7 p.m.
