La Habra renews Gary Center lease for five more years at $1 a year
La Habra approved a new five-year lease allowing VCC: The Gary Center to continue using two city-owned facilities on South Hillcrest Street for annual rent of $1.
The La Habra City Council approved the agreement on Aug. 3, 2026. The lease covers properties at 341 South Hillcrest Street and 350 South Hillcrest Street and runs from Aug. 3, 2026, through Aug. 3, 2031.
City manager authorized to execute agreement
The council approved and authorized the city manager to execute the lease with VCC: The Gary Center. The action continues the organization’s use of city-owned facilities; it does not transfer ownership or sell the properties.
The lease identifies the purpose as operating community health and wellness services for the La Habra community. It sets annual rent at $1.
Hillcrest site tied to local outreach
City information identifies the Hillcrest Health & Wellness Center at 341 South Hillcrest Street as a meeting location for La Habra’s Community Outreach & Engagement Team and connects the site with supportive-service referrals. The city says those referrals can include housing resources, mental health assistance, veterans’ support, transitional programs and substance-abuse care.
Los Angeles County service information lists The Gary Center as providing counseling, dental, education and emergency food services. Those listings offer general context about the organization’s service categories and do not establish that every service is offered at both leased addresses.
What residents and taxpayers should know
The immediate result is that The Gary Center can continue using the two Hillcrest Street facilities for an initial five-year term under the approved agreement.
The lease’s stated annual rent is $1. That figure is the rent specified in the agreement and does not, by itself, establish the city’s full operating, maintenance or other costs associated with the properties.
For La Habra residents, the agreement preserves a city-connected location for community health and wellness services through Aug. 3, 2031. The lease term began Aug. 3, 2026.
