Police launch online crime mapping tool

The Lake Jackson Police Department has rolled out an online crime mapping page that lets residents see where and when officers are responding to criminal reports. The map is fed automatically from the department’s records system and refreshes roughly twice a day, so trends stay current for neighborhoods across the city.

The tool focuses on reports of criminal activity rather than routine calls, traffic stops or animal complaints. City staff describe it as a way to give residents a clearer picture of what officers are dealing with and to encourage people to report suspicious activity and take simple steps to protect their property.

May city election field fills in

Lake Jackson’s next general election is set for Saturday, May 2, 2026, and the candidate list is taking shape. Voters will choose a mayor along with council positions 2 and 4.

Rhonda Seth has filed to run for mayor. For council position 2, candidates on the ballot so far are Kevin James Lindenschmidt, Ariel Lara and Matthew Bjune. For position 4, R.L. Buster Buell III is the lone applicant at this point.

The city is reminding would be candidates that filing for a spot on the ballot closes on Friday, February 13, with a separate deadline for write in filings the following week. The drawing to determine the order of names on the ballot is scheduled for the evening of Thursday, February 19, at City Hall.

Storm sewer work still slowing Oyster Creek Drive

A storm sewer installation project on Oyster Creek Drive continues to affect traffic between Dixie Drive and Moss Street. Lane closures tied to the work began Monday, January 26, and are expected to last for about five weeks.

Drivers using that stretch should build in extra time, watch for crews and obey cones and signage. The upgrades are aimed at improving drainage along a busy corridor, and the city has been directing residents to follow its alerts and website updates for any changes to the schedule.

Open houses highlight an active housing market

For residents who are house hunting or just curious about the market, several open houses are scheduled around Lake Jackson this weekend. Listings show four homes open today in established neighborhoods on streets such as Spruce, Zinnia, Forest Oaks and Chestnut, generally priced in the mid two hundred thousand dollar range.

Two more open houses are set for Sunday on Silverbell Circle and Sandalwood Drive. Windows for touring run through the late morning and early afternoon, giving buyers a chance to compare layouts and prices while staying close to home.
