Lancaster County plan sets road priorities affecting Malcolm

Lancaster County’s 2026-2028 strategic plan makes climate-smart, resilient infrastructure a top priority and sets transportation goals that affect communities outside Lincoln, including Malcolm. The plan calls for safer, more reliable travel and a reduction in the number of unpaved roads carrying more than 400 vehicles per day by the end of 2028.

The plan also sets two near-term milestones: identifying improvements to 148th Street and completing a regional traffic study by the end of 2026. Those steps establish countywide planning targets for road reliability and regional connections.

For Malcolm, the plan does not identify which local roads would receive work first, a construction schedule or a funding amount. Lancaster County records separately document a maintenance agreement involving Malcolm Road and the Village of Malcolm. A July 23, 2024, county commissioners’ agenda recorded an amendment that increased the rate Malcolm pays the county for pavement marking.

The next stated actions are the 148th Street improvement planning and regional traffic study due by the end of 2026, followed by the county’s 2028 target for reducing high-traffic unpaved roads. The strategic plan does not establish that Malcolm Road will be resurfaced or reconstructed.
