Laredo drivers are seeing two different fuel trends. AAA’s latest Laredo metro price check, dated July 31, lists regular gasoline at $3.556 per gallon and diesel at $4.892.
Regular gasoline fell 0.9 cents from the previous AAA check and was down 16.9 cents from a week earlier. The decline is more modest over longer periods: regular gas was 39.6 cents higher than AAA’s month-ago figure and 94.8 cents higher than the same comparison last year.
Diesel moved higher day to day
Diesel did not follow regular gas’s daily decline. The AAA average increased 0.3 cents from the previous check, although it remained 5.4 cents below the level recorded a week earlier.
The longer-term comparison is considerably more expensive. Diesel was up 89.8 cents from a month ago and $1.689 higher than a year ago. That gap matters particularly for freight carriers, border logistics operators, contractors, delivery companies, farmers and other businesses that use diesel regularly.
What the prices mean locally
For commuters and households, the weekly decline in regular gas offers some relief if it continues, but the monthly and yearly comparisons show that fuel remains a significant budget expense.
Diesel’s higher price can work through local costs more broadly. Delivery routes, construction equipment, commercial vehicles and freight movements through Laredo can face added operating pressure when diesel remains far above earlier-year levels. Those costs may influence service prices, restaurant deliveries and the expenses of moving goods, although the AAA figures alone do not establish that any particular business has raised prices.
AAA’s figures are metro averages, not a guarantee of the price at every pump. Individual stations can differ by location, fuel grade, competition and operating costs. A 7-Eleven listing for a station on McPherson Road provides local station context, but it should not be treated as a citywide average.
For drivers, the practical takeaway is to compare nearby stations before filling up, especially when buying diesel or making a larger commercial purchase. The next useful signal will be whether regular gas continues its weekly decline and whether diesel’s small daily increase becomes a broader reversal.
