Las Cruces-area Project Jupiter meeting set for Aug. 11

A public meeting on Project Jupiter, a proposed data-center development in the Las Cruces area, is scheduled for Aug. 11, 2026, from 6 to 8 p.m. The meeting will give residents a near-term opportunity to ask questions about the project and its permitting and power-generation plans.

Project Jupiter has prompted questions about an air permit and how electricity would be generated for the proposed development. Those issues could affect discussions about energy and other infrastructure in Las Cruces and Doña Ana County.

The meeting notice does not indicate that a permit decision will be made that night. Project Jupiter remains a proposal; its final size, investment, emissions, water demand and construction schedule have not been confirmed.

The project is separate from two police-related allocations in a Las Cruces City Council budget document approved earlier this year. That document included $2.5 million for a police emergency-vehicle training track and $1.5 million for police vehicles. The training-track project was described as a joint effort with the Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Office.

The Aug. 11 meeting is the next known public step in the discussion of Project Jupiter’s permitting and power-generation plans.
