Lawson R-XIV Issues $3 Million Bond for Agriculture Lab and Parking Work
Lawson Reorganized School District No. R-XIV has issued $3 million in bonds for an agriculture learning lab and parking-lot improvements, moving the voter-approved capital program from authorization into financing, design and bidding.
A Missouri State Auditor bond registration report dated June 17, 2026, records the Series 2026 issue as issued June 23, 2026. Voters approved the April 7 bond question by 409 votes to 245.
The issuer is Lawson R-XIV, not the City of Lawson. The Auditor’s record identifies the district’s counties as Ray, Clinton and Clay, so the bond record does not establish that every project site or taxpayer is within the city limits.
What the bond covers
The authorized program includes an agriculture education learning lab with an agriculture mechanics shop and classroom. It also includes parking-lot pavement repair and overlay.
District materials say the bond creates a capital project fund restricted to capital improvements. The proceeds cannot be used for salaries or routine daily operating costs.
The funded work does not include a greenhouse. Lawson R-XIV has described a greenhouse as a possible future phase that would depend on grants or sponsorships.
Design and bidding are next
Construction has not begun according to the district’s latest available update. In its May 2026 Board of Education recap, Lawson R-XIV said design work was continuing and that planning was addressing requirements related to relocating an electrical transformer.
The district said final requirements were expected in June and that the project remained on schedule for release to bidders in late August 2026. That is a district projection, not a completed bid or construction award.
An April district recap said the learning-lab work could be bid in two phases: one for the building shell and infrastructure and another for interior completion. The district also reported that early preparations were underway for parking improvements, with final completion expected by summer 2027.
Tax rate and debt context
District materials state that the bond was structured without an increase to the current tax rate and that the district does not plan to pursue an operating-levy increase. A level tax rate does not mean the financing has no taxpayer obligation; the bonds carry long-term repayment requirements.
The Auditor’s report lists an overall interest rate of 4.51120 percent, with maturities beginning in 2042 and ending in 2046. Total district indebtedness, including this issue, is listed at $14.74 million.
For Lawson-area residents, the next accountability points are the projected late-August bid release, later board action on bids and contracts, final project costs, construction timing and the completion schedule for the learning lab and parking work.
