103rd Street Redesign Moves Forward

Plans to redesign a busy stretch of 103rd Street are gaining momentum, with safety at the center of the conversation. The proposal would reduce the road from four lanes to three, add bike lanes on both sides, and widen sidewalks to create more space for pedestrians.

Improved crossings and upgraded pedestrian signals are also part of the plan, responding to a history of crashes along the corridor. While drivers may notice slower traffic during peak hours, city officials say the redesign prioritizes safer travel for everyone who uses the street.

Independence Day Parade Planning Begins

Looking ahead to summer, applications are now open for Leawood’s Independence Day parade on July 4, 2026. This year’s celebration carries added significance as the nation marks its 250th anniversary, with expanded festivities planned throughout the day.

The parade will travel along a newly reconstructed stretch of Tomahawk Creek Parkway, followed by an evening celebration with food, entertainment, and fireworks at City Park. Community groups, businesses, and families are encouraged to participate.

Tonight, families can head to The Lodge at Ironwoods for the popular Daddy Daughter Date Night, featuring a tropical theme with music, dancing, and snacks. It’s one of several February events leading into a busy spring calendar for parks and community programs.
