Logan council to hold Aug. 4 hearing on proposed budget adjustments
The Logan Municipal Council is scheduled to hold a public hearing Tuesday, Aug. 4, on six proposed fiscal 2026-27 budget adjustments totaling $143,210.
The hearing is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in the Logan Municipal Council Chambers at 290 North 100 West. The proposals are contained in Resolution 26-26 and remain subject to council action at the meeting.
What Resolution 26-26 proposes
The largest proposed appropriation is $50,000 from funds Public Works received from the Utah Department of Transportation. The resolution says the money would be used to improve the 400 North and 600 West intersection and corridor.
Three proposed police-related appropriations total $31,210:
- $18,000 from the Utah Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force for investigation, protection and community education related to child exploitation;
- $10,710 from the Bulletproof Vest Partnership to purchase vests for police officers; and
- $2,500 in donated funds for Police Department supplies.
The resolution also proposes a $40,000 appropriation from funds the city will receive from Select Health. The stated purpose is to promote employee wellness through activities, newsletters and other wellness programs.
The sixth proposed appropriation is $22,000 from golf-cart rental revenue for a Visage software package for golf carts.
Public comment and possible council action
The budget-adjustment hearing appears under the Aug. 4 agenda’s action items, with an estimated 5:50 p.m. start during the regular meeting that begins at 5:30 p.m.
The agenda says people addressing the council should sign in, state their name and city of residence when required, speak at the microphone and keep comments relevant to the matter under consideration. Comments are generally limited to three minutes unless the council chair grants additional time. The agenda also says public comment closes once the council moves on from an item unless the council reopens it.
Resolution 26-26 includes proposed revenue and expense accounts for each adjustment, but its adoption section is blank. The six items therefore should not be treated as final appropriations or spending already in effect.
Final budget adoption is scheduled for Aug. 11
The Aug. 4 hearing is separate from Logan’s scheduled public hearing for final fiscal 2026-27 budget adoption. That hearing is set for Tuesday, Aug. 11, at 6 p.m. in the Municipal Council Chambers at 290 North 100 West.
The official notice describes the proposed final budget as balanced, with projected revenues and requested expenditures totaling $222,136,462. It covers the city’s listed fiscal-year funds, including water and sewer, electric, environmental health, general, library and capital improvement funds, among others.
For Logan residents, the immediate public decision point is the Aug. 4 hearing and possible action on Resolution 26-26. The broader fiscal 2026-27 budget process is scheduled to move to final adoption at the Aug. 11 public hearing.
