Machesney Park senior-housing project receives state tax credits
A senior-housing development planned for Perryville Road in Machesney Park received state low-income housing tax credits July 7, 2026, advancing the project beyond its local land-use approval.
The award is the latest publicly identified step for a development intended to provide housing for older residents. It follows a unanimous vote by the Machesney Park Village Board on June 2, 2025, to approve a special-use permit for the project.
Project moves beyond village approval
A special-use permit is the village’s approval for a proposed use of property that requires additional review under local zoning rules. The 2025 vote established the project’s local approval before the state tax-credit award was announced.
The state award does not mean construction has started. It does, however, move the Perryville Road development beyond the special-use approval stage and represents a further step for the planned senior-housing project.
For Machesney Park, the development could eventually add another housing option for older residents. If it proceeds, it may also bring construction activity near Perryville Road and affect local traffic and demand for nearby services. The project’s eventual effect on the community will depend on its size, design and schedule.
Size and timeline have not been announced
The July 7 announcement did not identify the number of housing units, the project’s total development cost, the precise value of the tax-credit award or the length of any affordability period. It also did not provide a construction start date or expected completion date.
Those details will shape what the development means for future residents and the surrounding area. Without a documented construction schedule, the project remains a planned development rather than a project with a confirmed opening date.
Machesney Park launched its official online permitting and planning portal April 1, 2026. The village identifies the portal as its channel for permits, planning applications, inspections and complaints.
Future municipal information tied to the Perryville Road development would be expected through the village’s permitting and planning system. For now, the confirmed milestones are the village board’s June 2, 2025, special-use approval and the state tax-credit announcement on July 7, 2026.
