Macon County schools begin 2026-27 year August 3; August 6 election day is a no-school day

Macon County Schools will begin the 2026-27 school year on Monday, August 3, 2026. The district’s calendar also designates Thursday, August 6, as Election Day, with no school scheduled. The calendar does not identify which election or voting arrangements the closure is tied to.

Before classes begin, the calendar lists a county-wide day on July 29, registration on July 30 from 8 to 10 a.m., and an administrative day on July 31. Families planning to enroll new students were offered registration July 14 at Macon County Junior High in Lafayette, while returning-student online registration was scheduled to begin July 15. School-based registration is scheduled for July 30.

Semester dates and breaks

The fall semester is scheduled to end December 18 after 87 days. The spring semester is scheduled to begin January 5, 2027, and end May 22, 2027, after 93 spring days. Fall break is set for October 5-9, while spring break is scheduled for March 22-25, 2027.

New-student registration materials identified by the district include proof of birth, Tennessee immunization documentation and proof of residency. The dates give families in Lafayette and throughout Macon County the main opening, registration and scheduled no-school days needed to plan for the school year.
