Macon residents can weigh in on possible Atlanta-Savannah rail route

Macon residents have until August 6, 2026, to weigh in on a Georgia Department of Transportation study of possible passenger rail service between Atlanta and Savannah.

The public-comment period is open through the official GDOT rail survey. The study could include a connection through Macon, but no Macon station or final route has been approved.

For Macon residents, the local question is whether Middle Georgia should be included in the corridor alternatives being studied rather than treated only as a point between Atlanta and Savannah.

Local reporting from WPGA and 41NBC has highlighted efforts by Middle Georgia transportation advocates and local officials to encourage consideration of Macon in the possible route.
