Graniteville residents invited to review Ascauga Lake Road safety recommendations

Aiken County is moving its Ascauga Lake Road corridor study into the public-comment phase, with a drop-in meeting scheduled for Aug. 11 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Graniteville Elementary School, 1 Willis Circle, Graniteville.

The county will present preliminary recommendations for the roughly 7.5-mile section of S-33 between Edgefield Road/U.S. 25 and Canal Street/S.C. 191. The study is intended to improve safety and traffic function along the corridor, which serves residents, commuters, freight operators and people walking or biking.

What the study examines

Planning documents say the study analyzes traffic patterns, congestion points and accident data. It also considers freight, multimodal facilities and transportation needs related to walking and biking. The work may support a corridor-management plan and, if feasible, a conceptual redesign focused on safety, reliability and livability.

Comments may be submitted by mail, email or at the meeting through Aug. 28. The county has not yet announced which preliminary recommendations will be adopted, and the records do not identify funded construction, a cost estimate or a construction schedule. The study began in fiscal year 2026 and is expected to be completed in September 2026, after the public-comment period.
