Madsewer sets July 1, 2026 final completion for LBMCI phases 5 & 6

Madison residents on the far west side are watching a major construction milestone: the Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District (Madsewer/MMSD) lists July 1, 2026 as the project’s Final Completion date for Lower Badger Mill Creek Interceptor phases 5 & 6.

For many households, the “big question” is less about a calendar date and more about what the milestone means for how wastewater will move through the system—especially whether temporary configurations shift once the interceptor and related pump infrastructure are fully ready.

What Madsewer lists for phases 5 & 6

Madsewer’s project materials show a Phase 6 schedule with substantial completion on June 1, 2026 and then Final Completion on July 1, 2026.

Those same materials also say Phase 5 was completed in 2024, and that Phase 6 work continues the interceptor connections up to Midtown Road (with the project designed to connect into the existing system at the Midtown Lift Station).

The operational hinge: Pump Station 17 and the temporary Midtown lift station

Madsewer ties the practical operational change to Pump Station 17 and an associated force main. The project-page text says that after improvements to Pump Station 17 and the associated force main are complete, gravity sewer flow from the Badger Mill Creek sewershed to Pumping Station 17 will be possible—and the temporary Midtown Lift Station will be shut down.

In other words: July 1, 2026 is the interceptor project’s Final Completion milestone, but the shift away from the temporary lift-station setup depends on the Pump Station 17/force main work being finished.

A City of Verona Common Council agenda packet that tracks this regional corridor also reflects that sequencing. It notes PS17 firm capacity improvements with construction ongoing through Spring of 2026, and it frames “final completion … up to Mid Town Road” as expected by June 2026.

What residents may still see around (and after) the July 1 date

Even after a final completion milestone, Madsewer’s project update language indicates that restoration and fine-tuning typically continue—especially where vegetation establishment takes time. Current project updates highlight:

• Mid Town Road is OPEN: sewer pipe installation across it is complete and new asphalt has been installed to patch the roadway.
• Pipe installation north of Mid Town Road: about 300 feet of sewer main is being installed north of Mid Town Road.
• Pipe South of Mid Town Road: all sewer main installation south of Mid Town Road is complete.
• Farm fields south of Mid Town Road: grading and restoration using temporary cover crop and hydro-mulch.
• Ravine restoration: seed and erosion matting have been installed, with temporary cover crop beginning to establish while native seed mixes take additional time to fully germinate and establish.
• Shady Oak Lane: work is complete except for a few minor touch-ups.

Madsewer’s July 2025 newsletter issue also spells out restoration methods: asphalt on roads, topsoil in farm fields, and native woodland seed mix in the ravine held in place with erosion matting.
