Maple Plain’s 2026 street projects move into construction season with full downtown utility reconstruction

Maple Plain is preparing for two major 2026 street and infrastructure projects that will affect downtown travel, water systems, drainage, sidewalks and access to local businesses and facilities.

The city’s March 11 announcement describes full reconstruction of downtown streets and utilities, along with a separate project on Industrial Street. Construction was anticipated to begin in May or June and continue through the fall.

Downtown reconstruction

The downtown project includes full reconstruction of streets, watermains and sanitary sewer lines. It also calls for new sidewalks and additional street lighting, meaning the work will extend beyond pavement repairs to several underground and pedestrian systems.

The city release names Main Street East, Pioneer Avenue, Delano Avenue, Maple Avenue, Marsh Avenue and Spring Avenue among the Maple Plain streets and facilities associated with the city’s 2026 infrastructure work. The announcement does not provide a block-by-block closure schedule or a final completion date.

Industrial Street work

Industrial Street is slated for pavement resurfacing, minor curb and drainage improvements, and full watermain replacement. Those changes are expected to affect drivers and nearby property owners while also addressing water and stormwater infrastructure along the street.

The city’s construction window is an anticipated schedule, not a final completion deadline. The release does not say that every resident will experience a water-service interruption, and it does not identify specific closure dates.

Additional water projects on state priority list

A separate 2026 Minnesota Drinking Water Revolving Fund project priority list also identifies Maple Plain water projects. The list includes a new well and test well project with a listed cost of $585,000, Independence Street watermain replacement at $443,500, and Main Street watermain replacement at $331,000.

The state document also lists lead-service-line replacement projects at $412,500 and $55,000, including a Main Street lead-service-line replacement project listed at $55,000. The projects appear on the state’s priority list, but that status does not by itself establish that the work has been funded, awarded or completed.

Together, the city’s announced construction and the state-listed water projects point to a substantial infrastructure season for Maple Plain. Residents, commuters, pedestrians, businesses and property owners will need to follow city updates for the final traffic-control plan and any service notices. The next known step is the anticipated start of construction in May or June, followed by work scheduled to conclude in the fall.
