Mound water-main project enters summer construction stages with Commerce Boulevard detours

Mound’s Phase 2 water-treatment infrastructure project is moving into summer construction stages, with crews finishing water-service reconnections near Surfside Park and beginning temporary drive-lane patching during the week of July 27, 2026.

The city’s work is bringing closures, detours and lane reductions to parts of the project corridor. Drivers may encounter roads reduced to one lane in each direction, while residents and businesses near active construction may experience temporary access disruptions.

Work underway near Surfside Park

The July 27 city update said crews were completing reconnections for water services near Surfside Park. Temporary patching of drive lanes was also beginning in that stage of the project.

Pedestrian-ramp and curb replacements were scheduled as part of the same work. Pavement, sidewalks and turf disturbed by construction are included in the project’s restoration work.

The city says construction timing can change because of weather and other construction issues. The project is continuing through the spring and summer 2026 construction period, but the city’s update does not provide a final completion date.

Water-main replacement corridor

The project replaces and upsizes water transmission mains from the Evergreen Road water tower east to Bartlett Boulevard. Work also extends along County State Aid Highway 110 toward Old Shoreline Drive, including Commerce Boulevard detours identified by the city.

Water services connected to the transmission system are also being replaced. Once construction advances, crews are expected to restore affected pavement, sidewalks and turf along the work area.

The city’s broader water-treatment infrastructure program is tied to its effort to address elevated manganese and develop a future water-treatment facility. Replacing the transmission mains and services is one part of that larger effort; this phase does not by itself establish that all water-quality issues have been resolved.

What residents and commuters should expect

People traveling through the corridor should allow extra time and watch for changing detours, closures and lane configurations. The city has warned that not every road condition will remain the same throughout construction, as crews move between service connections, utility work, pavement repairs, curbs and pedestrian ramps.

Residents directly affected by the city’s 2026 road and utility construction program were to receive mailed notices and postcards, according to an earlier city announcement. The city described the broader program as an effort to improve driving conditions and water quality.

For now, the practical effect is an active construction corridor stretching from the Evergreen Road tower through Bartlett Boulevard and along CSAH 110 toward Old Shoreline Drive, with work continuing into summer 2026.
