Marietta council delays Powers Ferry data-center vote as moratorium takes effect

Marietta City Council delayed a final decision on a proposed data infrastructure facility at 1155 Powers Ferry Place while adopting a temporary moratorium on new data-center rezoning and permit applications in the city.

The council voted 7-0 on July 8, 2026, to table Prime Storage Powers Ferry Place Marietta LLC’s request. The application remains active and has not been approved, denied or withdrawn.

The Powers Ferry application remains pending

The proposal concerns a 10.73-acre property at 1155 Powers Ferry Place. Prime Storage is seeking to retain the site’s existing CRC, or Community Retail Commercial, zoning while adding data infrastructure facility use.

Marietta’s Planning Commission recommended approval by a 4-3 vote. The council’s tabling action postponed final consideration rather than resolving the rezoning case.

East Cobb News reported that the matter was scheduled for further consideration on August 12, 2026. That date is a reported follow-up point, not a guaranteed final decision unless the city’s official meeting materials confirm the agenda and action.

Moratorium pauses new applications

Separately, the council adopted a temporary moratorium on accepting new data-center rezoning and permit applications within the City of Marietta. The moratorium is scheduled to remain in effect through December 31, 2026.

The moratorium does not automatically stop or resolve the Powers Ferry application. Local reporting said the measure excludes that pending request and a previously approved data-center project on Bells Ferry Road.

That distinction matters for residents tracking development near Powers Ferry Place: Marietta has paused new comparable applications, but the existing Powers Ferry case remains before the city for additional consideration.

Residents, nearby property owners and other interested parties should watch the City Council’s published agenda and meeting materials for the reported August 12 consideration. Those documents should show whether the council takes action, requests additional information or continues the matter again.

For future applicants, the July 8 action temporarily closes the city’s intake for new data-center rezoning and permit applications through the end of 2026. For the Powers Ferry applicant, the review process continues under the pending rezoning request.
