Marion Morning Briefing: February 7, 2026
Marion, IN — February 7, 2026 — City cleanup dates, grants, and winter events highlight a week of planning, services, and low-cost ways to get involved.
Marion Morning Briefing for Saturday, February 7, 2026
Good morning, Marion. Here’s a quick look at what’s on tap locally as the first full week of February wraps up.
Citywide cleanup dates set for 2026
The city has released its 2026 cleanup schedule and shared a recap of last year’s efforts. The announcements emphasize neighborhood pride and encourage residents to plan ahead for spring and summer drop-off days, when large items and debris can be disposed of at designated locations.
Officials are framing the effort as part of a broader push to keep streets, alleys, and vacant lots in better shape heading into the warmer months.
Help available through opioid grants and home repair aid
The city is still accepting proposals from nonprofits and community groups for projects funded by opioid settlement dollars. The grant program supports prevention, treatment, harm reduction, and recovery services, with awards of up to $50,000. The application deadline has been extended to February 13, giving organizations a bit more time to finish proposals.
Separately, a home repair assistance program remains open through March 1. The program is intended to help residents address basic safety and habitability issues so more people can stay in their homes safely.
February events: public TV premiere and free pet vaccines
A red carpet premiere for the public television documentary ‘Now Entering Marion’ is planned at Marion Public Library on the evening of February 26. The screening is free to attend, but organizers are asking residents to reserve a spot in advance. The film focuses on local stories and is being promoted as a chance to see neighbors and familiar landmarks on screen.
Animal lovers also have a date to circle: the city’s animal care team has rescheduled its free pet vaccine clinic for February 13, after a January date was canceled because of weather. The clinic is expected to focus on basic vaccines and aims to reach pet owners who may struggle with routine veterinary costs.
Civic opening and utility meeting this week
The Common Council has announced an opening on the local visitors bureau and is inviting interested residents to apply. The seat helps guide how tourism dollars are used and how the community is marketed to visitors.
In addition, the Utility Service Board met on February 5 for its regular session. Residents who follow water, sewer, and other utility issues can review posted agendas and minutes afterward.
