Maury County voters head to the polls Thursday in an election affecting Columbia

Columbia-area voters who have not already voted will head to their assigned polling places Thursday, Aug. 6, for Maury County’s primary and general election.

Early voting ended Saturday, Aug. 1. The Maury County Election Commission administers federal, state and local elections for Maury County, including the City of Columbia.

What is on the ballot

Republican and Democratic primary contests are scheduled for governor, U.S. Senate, U.S. House, Tennessee Senate districts with odd numbers, Tennessee House and the Republican and Democratic state executive committees.

The general election includes vacant state judicial offices and applicable county offices. Local contests listed by the election calendar include county mayor, county commission, county trustee, sheriff, circuit court clerk, county clerk, register of deeds, odd-numbered school board districts and constables.

Not every Columbia voter will see every race. Ballot contents depend on the voter’s address, district and, for primary contests, party selection.

Why School Board District 2 appears

The Election Commission says School Board District 2 will appear on the August 2026 ballot because an appointment to that seat is expiring.

That is an official ballot update tied to the expiration of the appointment. It does not, by itself, indicate a broader change in Maury County’s school board or school policy.

Key dates for Columbia voters

• July 7: Last day to register to vote for this election.
• July 17-Aug. 1: Early voting period.
• Thursday, Aug. 6: Election Day.

The Columbia early-voting site was the Maury County Election Commission office at 1207 Tradewinds Drive. That early-voting period is now closed.

How to prepare for Election Day

Before going to vote, Columbia residents should verify their ballot, assigned polling place and Election Day hours by address through the Maury County Election Commission’s official election materials or Tennessee’s GoVoteTN voter-information tools.

Those address-based checks matter because district lines and applicable contests can vary within Columbia and elsewhere in Maury County. Voters should rely on the polling information assigned to their own address rather than assume that the early-voting location is also their Election Day site.
