Meridian Daily Brief: Infrastructure, Schools, and Growth Updates
Meridian, ID — February 6, 2026 — City leaders approved major wastewater upgrades, schools receive new AEDs, and road closures continue along Ustick Road.
Wastewater Facility Upgrade Moves Forward
Meridian is moving ahead with a significant investment in its wastewater infrastructure. City leaders approved plans to spend more than $7 million on upgrades at the Wastewater Resource Recovery Facility. The project focuses on improving how biosolids are processed, using a greenhouse-style drying system that is expected to cut landfill trips nearly in half.
City officials say the changes will reduce long-term costs, reuse biogas produced on-site, and make operations more environmentally friendly. Construction planning is underway, with funding coming largely from federal relief dollars already allocated to the city.
Life-Saving Equipment Headed to West Ada Schools
Every West Ada school is set to receive an Automated External Defibrillator after the Meridian City Council approved the donation of 37 devices. The AEDs will be placed in elementary schools, alternative campuses, and district facilities that previously lacked the equipment.
Fire and police officials say the donation repurposes fully functional AEDs from upgraded emergency vehicles. The move is expected to save the school district tens of thousands of dollars while improving emergency preparedness at campuses that host large public events.
Ustick Road Closures Continue This Week
Drivers are seeing continued nighttime closures along Ustick Road between Owyhee Storm Avenue and McDermott Bypass. Crews are setting large girders for the future State Highway 16 interchange, a major milestone in the long-term project.
Closures are in effect overnight, with detours routed to McMillan Road and Cherry Lane. Transportation officials say access to nearby homes is being maintained and the interchange remains on track for completion in 2027.
Scentsy Expands Automation in Meridian
At Scentsy’s Meridian distribution center, a new automated warehouse system is now fully operational. The facility uses dozens of robots to retrieve products and deliver them directly to workers, reducing walking time and increasing efficiency.
Company leaders say the system supports future growth while keeping jobs local, blending automation with hands-on roles rather than replacing them.
